Allen Browne's Database and Training

Satisfied clients

As a sample of the diversity of Allen Browne's skills, here are some of the large and small businesses and not-for-profit groups who have benefited from his databases and training in the last eight years.

Global Health Ltd

Global Health Ltd is a UK based company that processes orders from diverse range of mail order catalogues.

Dan Hildrew (Information Technology and Communications Manager) writes:

We initially made contact with Allen to sort out a bug related problem we were having with our order processing database, based on Access 97. The fact that we were able to work methodically through the problem to a successful solution, and only through the medium of email, is testament to Allen's skill, knowledge and patience.

Allen has subsequently developed a barcode scanner solution and more importantly, an inventory (stock) control system for our company. Allen's brief for the stock control system was quite complex in that it had to integrate with our bespoke order processing system. With accurate inventory being such a crucial aspect of our business, it had to be right. After a very short development time we were able to implement this system in January of this year (2003). We are extremely pleased with the application and the way in which it integrates seamlessly with our existing systems. Again, it is amazing to think this major project was conducted over email. Allen's support has been second to none and I would not hesitate to recommend or use his services again.

This project was quite large for Access, involving hundreds of thousands of customers from several networked databases.

Kleenheat Gas

Kleenheat Gas is a division of Wesfarmers Limited, one of Australia's most successful companies. Their staff had some knowledge of Access, but requested Allen Browne provide consultancy to develop a database that would ensure their compliance with the myriad regulations and licensing requirements controlling the storage and distribution of liquid petroleum gas.

Russell Purdy (Safety Manager) writes

Allen has provided consultancy to us for development of our MS access based compliance database.

Without his knowledge, expertise and wonderful personal style, the results would have been second rate.

Allen continues to provide consultancy and guidance to Kleenheat Gas as needed.

Wesley Mission

Wesley Mission (part of the Uniting Church in Australia) has a number of arms. Their Do Care program involves full-time coordinators who supervise hundreds of volunteers who care for thousands of recipients.

The program manager (Bettine Heathcote) writes:

The database was quite complex and from the initial interview Allen not only listened to our requirements, but also made some most helpful suggestions to improve the end product. The timeframe for writing the database was always adhered to and modifications and alterations were undertaken promptly and willingly.

Without the database, some of the funding reports were proving unmanageable.

Pro Design Lighting

Pro Design Lighting hires and sells stage lighting and equipment. When the designer of their original Access database was no longer available, they requested Allen Browne to upgrade the database to Access 97, and provide additional functionality. Further projects are being investigated.

Manager Kevin Harris writes:

Having dealt with Allen over the last few years, I can certainly recommend him to anyone requiring a database solution. His professionalism and commitment to making the final product just right is a refreshing change in today's business world.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels is a welfare agency, delivering meals to many recipients in their own homes each day. They engaged Allen to write a software package to manage the special needs of each recipient, collate this information for meals preparation, and handle the distribution routes.

Lynton O'Hara (System Officer of Rosewood Care Group Inc) writes:

The task was completed on time and to our total satisfaction. The program performs as required. A comprehensive manual was provided and covers all operational requirements. It is of sufficient depth to enable a new operator to learn the program with little or no outside assistance.

We have been completely satisfied with the service given, and would be happy to recommend Mr Browne in the area of database development.

Harris and Sons

This heritage jeweller engaged Allen Browne to write a software package to manage their limited-edition, exclusive silverware export business. At the end of the project, they expressed their pleasure through the gift of a beautifully crafted spoon decorated with Australian wild flowers.

Good News Broadcasters

For several years, Allen worked for Christian radio station, Sonshine Fm. He developed a fund-raising package, now used by other public broadcasters as well.

The database keeps an organisation in touch with its individual and corporate donors through a variety of mailing lists. It handles donations, receipting, and banking, one-off promises, regular pledges, membership subscriptions, and fund-raising events. Its comprehensive reporting tracks the source and use of each donation.

This package - Daily Bread - is available by joint arrangement with Sonshine Fm.

Murundoo

Keith and Margaret Morgan spent many years living among the Australian Aboriginal people. They now help artists from a number of Aboriginal communities to display their artwork in galleries throughout Australia.

This was Allen's first commercial Access database, completed in 1994 in Access version 1. Though now updated to Access 97, the program remains in use today.
